Our annual vacation often took us back to Thailand.  Over the years we visited city places and surrounding areas of Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai and northern regions. Ace would go home to visit family usually and then I would join him and we would vacation, often checking out different locations.

The page contains some of the pictures of these visits, locations and any short stories that can accompany them.

Bangkok

It was always fascinating to get around the city by taxi, sky train, tuk tuk or walking – with the heat it was generally in some form of transporation.

We would stay at various locations in the city but around the Silom, Sukhumvit to Sathorn areas. Shopping for clothes was always on the agenda.

We checked out the usual high profile temples, took a klong tour and enjoyed the sites, sounds and food a long the Chat Prayo river.

We celebrated one of my birthdays atop this hotel with fantastic views out over the city – high prices, average food but nice environment.

Headed out of Bangkok to the bridge on the river Kwai and the Kantchanburi war cemetery

Had visit to the floating markets outside of Bangkok

Phuket

Pattaya/Jomtien

We normally stayed in Jomtien over the hill from Pattaya as it was more peaceful and had a beach side atmosphere.

Koh Samui

Chiang Mai & North

We flew to Chiang Rai and toured around the area before heading to Chiang Mai.  We checked out Mae Sot, the Golden Triangle area and crossed over to both Loas and Cambodia.  This gave us a small view of the poor countries they are.

At the Golden triangle area we overlooked the Megong to the neighbouring countries.

We drove up to Doi Inthanon to see the highest point in Thailand

Its a wonderful country with a diverse and different culture to what western people are used to.  Once you take the time to understand the way of life and settle into a more tranquil living style the new found freedom is fantastic.
