This evening at Central Festival Chiang Mai the Vice Governor along with members of the Consular Corps of Northern Thailand participated in a media launch ceremony for the Chiang Mai World Fair 17. The event organiser invited some 50 media outlets to the event to showcase what the Fair was all about, the country booths participating, activities involved and cultural performances.A large media contingent was on hand to report on the details of the event and for many photo opportunities

The launch was a grand display involving a Thai drum performance followed by unique dances involving flowers, glitter falling from umbrellas and dazzling costumes.  It was a very inspiring performance that was followed by short presentations from the Vice Governor, secretary of the Consular Corps, GM Central Festival about the Fair, its content, objectives and outcomes. Besides country displays there will be displays regarding Chiang Mai 720 years and a tribute to late King Rama IX and his travels. Further comments from the US Consul General and Indian Consul were provided regarding special cultural displays.

The event opens to the public at 11 am on Friday the 27 January and runs through to 9 pm on Sunday 29 January 17.  A formal opening ceremony will take place on Friday afternoon around 5 Pm with the Chiang Mai Governor and special guests.

Hopefully this event that showcases the countries represented in Chiang Mai, country products, cultural performances and other activities will help to show Chiang Mai is a city connected to the world.
